Young Germans ignorant of Roma Holocaust persecution

32% of Germans between 24 and 35 years old ignore that Roma people were Holocaust victims. 19% have never heard about Nazi persecutions against gypsies, a percentage that anyway decreases to 9% for over 65. This is what emerges from a survey carried out at the Federal Antidiscrimination Centre that has presented the first results of its study (to be published in July) on the feelings about of Roma and Sinti in Germany. That, however, are not only characterized by the fact of ignoring this part of History. For living in peace with minorities, 91% of the sample put in the first place the necessity of improving integration services. While for 83% the most important thing is to facilitate their entrance in the labour market. Essential for others the aspect of “welfare tourism”, to the point that 80% of interviewees the fight against those profiting from social benefits is the priority. Finally, for 34% of Germans, a simpler solution: more Polizei controls.
