Swedish artist Dan Park faced two prison sentences because of his provocative street art.
Both sentences were given for the same pictures. During the first court
case, Park had uploaded pictures on a blog to tell his fans what was
going on - before any sentence was given. Today he received another
prison sentence for doing that.
The court thought that Park had to be locked up because he was having a
high risk of repeating the "crime". Altogether Park will spend 4 months
in prison for thought/expression crimes. The prosecutor even demanded a
psychiatric assessment to be performed on Park.
Artist Lars Vilks, who himself has been hunted by Muslims because of his
art, commented that Dan Park is now part of the Swedish history of art.
Park's "crime" was to appear in an anti-racist demonstration carrying a
provocative sign. The demonstration was held against the alleged police
activity of keeping records of criminal gypsies. Park was carrying a
sign that said "Gypsy Crime Is Something Good" and uploaded a picture of
the text sign to the web.
