Hungary agrees to contribute to Auschwitz funding: 400,000 Hungarian Jews died at Nazi death camp

At least 1.1 million people -- 90 percent of them Jews -- perished in Auschwitz, the Nazi-run death camp in German-occupied Poland during World War II. While 400,000 of the victims were Hungarians, the Hungarian government has until recently been reluctant to help pay for the upkeep needed to preserve the former camp.
