2 men beaten in Romania after attending debate, play on homosexuality

BUCHAREST, Romania - A Romanian gay rights group says two men were beaten by a group of hooded men and needed hospital treatment after attending an event about attitudes toward homosexuality.
ACCEPT said that about 10 men waited for participants to exit a debate and a play on Tuesday evening and kicked, punched and shoved people, accusing them of "organizing gay events."
They said one man was hospitalized overnight at Bucharest's Emergency Hospital and another received hospital treatment.
ACCEPT on Thursday called on authorities to investigate the attacks.
Homosexuality was decriminalized in Romania in 2000, and gays say they face occasional discrimination.
In 2006, several people were beaten up in a Bucharest subway after attending a gay pride march.
