1775-Jews were expelled from the outskirts of Warsaw, Poland
1788- Arthur Schopenhauer, German philosopher who referred to the Jew as ‘The great master in lying’ was born in Danzig.
1797-Over 1,000 French troops attempted to invade Britain and landed at Fishguard, but were soon captured. No other foreign military force has managed to invade mainland Britain since.
1847-Mexican-American War: The Battle of Buena Vista – 5,000 American troops repelled 15,000 Mexicans.

1944-American aircraft mistakenly bombed the Dutch towns of Nijmegen, Arnhem, Enschede and Deventer, resulting in 800 dead in Nijmegen alone
1972-In England five women kitchen staff and an army priest were killed and nineteen injured after the IRA bombed Aldershot army barracks in Hampshire.
1973-Israeli fighter planes shot down a civilian Libyan Arab Airlines Boeing 727 killing 108.
